This picturesque village is a hidden treasure. Smaller than Lacock but stunningly beautiful, it has a museum and a river that used to power the village’s wool mills.
Most of the scenes from War Horse and some from the film Stardust were filmed here.
The castle that gave the village its name has now largely gone, though earthworks mark where it once stood. In the lower village is a playground, where little ones can burn off any extra energy.
