18. The Death of Emperor Hirohito, 124th Emperor of Japan, reigning from 25 December 1926, until his death on 7 January 1989.

22. Lily James, English actress (born 5 April 1989) who has starred in Downton Abbey, War & Peace and Cinderella.
23. Rory McIlroy (born 4 May 1989), professional golfer from Northern Ireland.
24. Brie Larson, American actress and filmmaker, born 1st October 1989, and starred in Room, Kong: Skull Island and will star as Carol Danvers in the new Marvel film.
25. The death of Salvador Dali (23rd January 1989), surrealist artist.
26. 22nd September 1989, Irving Berlin, the American songwriter and lyricist, died.
27. The first Gameboy was launched by Nintendo.
28. Batman film launched with Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson. It became a box office hit and won an Academy award.

30. The first image in HDTV was broadcast in Japan in June of 1989.
